PlatypusWatch
Platypus are hard to see in the wild. But, with the help of Dr Tamielle Brunt from Wildlife Queensland, participants in the six-monthly Killarney Bushcare Platypus Watch have a good chance. Starting with an engaging and informative presentation, Dr Tam helped over 40 enthusiastic citizen scientists understand what to look for when spotting for platypus. She also explained how the data they have collected over the last four years, helps us understand how these rare creatures are going. It made us feel very special to still have a healthy population that calls the waterways around Killarney home. During the watch the very next morning, platypus were spotted at 13 out of 23 sites. You can imagine the buzz of excitement when the watchers exchanged stories during breakfast at Killarney’s Cafe 27 afterwards!
